Updated Instructions for Rooting your Hisense Sero 7 (29th May)

Great work from user xboxexpert over at XDA, has updated his rooting method for the Hisense sero 7. Here are the new and revised rooting method.

[DEV/Root/CWM] Hisense Sero 7 Pro CWM Touch Recovery with Int/Ext SD Support

This is a full blown rock your sox off root/cwm touch recovery/bootanimation script. Oh and did I mention Revert back to Factory Flashable Zip?

It will not only insert the correct strings in your user folder ./android directory but it will open up device manager and tell you step by step what to do from start to finish. It will also reboot your device a couple of times to complete the process. Get a towel from your bathroom because you will need to wipe your chin once this is finished.

Root/Touch Recovery:
Step 1: Download the RAR files
Step 2: Unrar them somewhere
Step 3: Make sure you have ADB Debugging checked. To enable go to Settings > About > Click 8 times on Build number and back out to Settings it will be under the Developer menu.
Step 4: Run XESeroRoot.exe (not a virus just a exe version of a batch file)
Step 5: Follow instructions
Step 6: Profit

  5. This is my first device of this sort (I still use an old pre-flip phone) I can't unrar or access the exe. via the sero. I can run the exe from my PC but it does nothing.
Are there other basic steps I'm missing?

    1. After I do this can I start over and re-root the device?

  11. I can't perform this operation, the cmd prints starting daemon, listening on port..., but nothing happens after that.
Any help please? I also notice that windows install its own version of drivers for the device, do I have to install the one supplied with these rar files?
also, do we need to unrar to two different folders?

    Thanks.

  12. I'd love to use this. I have the same issue as Sagy Volkov (batch file hangs after starting adb). There are several .inf files included, and regardless of the one I choose I get an error message.

Which version of Windows is this supposed to work under? I tried WinXP SP3 and Win7. Both are in virtual machines, b/c I run Linux normally.

  13. Specifically, installing the driver, I get: "An error occurred during the installation of this device. A service installation section in this INF is invalid."

  14. Finally worked on Win7, not in a vm. Weird, dumb, but...cool. Thanks.

  15. Where do you do step 3? "Make sure you have ADB Debugging checked."

  16. How do I save Movies & Music directly to SD card? I've attempted to do so and it saves directly to device. Given its only 3gb i have to erase after watching.

  17. This is not direct experience with the device but what I did with my Thrive. I HAVE moved some files onto my Sero 7 Pro Micro SDcard say for library loans of books using Overdrive Media Console app which lets you specify where you want storage. I also created a downloads folder on the sdcard1 and it seems stuff goes there.

Create music and movie folders on the card (sdcard1) using a file manager (eg, ES File Explorer, Ghost Commander, etc). Then it depends on what app you use say for movie viewing. I know QQPlayer and MXPlayer allow you to pick you storage location. Not sure on the music; Google Play searches the device and recognizes my SDcard on my other tablet..haven't tried yet on my Pro. Other players probably offer storage location options. Your mileage may vary!

  18. I am trying to root. I pushed "build# (its been updated OTA to P756.6.02.11.00) 8 times, it says I am a developer but all of the developer options including USB debugging are "greyed out"? D I have to revert back to the as purchased build (forget the number now)?

  21. Do not use the Recovery mode on a UK 32GB Sero 7, you will brick it, check out the thread on xda-developers

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Do you mean for a UK machine you install a recovery option that should not be used, or you get an option not to install it?

I am wary of this rooting on UK machines - better not to use it until it all works.

  29. i go to device manager and select my Sero and go to update drivers with "USBdriver" folder selected and it says windows has found my drivers up to date and wont install. i'm running windows 7. is there a way to force install or get around that windows bullshit?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well I'm stuck at the device manager step. Update drivers simply refuses to recognize the drivers provided...any assistance?
